Introduction – Biography

I am currently enrolled in the Documentary Media MFA Program at Ryerson University after completing a Masters degree in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Guelph. I have a Specialist’s degree in Anthropology, a Major in Sociology, and a Minor in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Toronto. After completing my undergraduate degree I enrolled in a Post-graduate Certificate Program in Film and Television Production at Humber College. Additionally, I have taken courses in voiceover work at Toronto’s VoiceWorx.
My teaching experience includes courses in Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminology from the University of Guelph, Guelph/Humber, and Ryerson University. One of my career goals includes taking issues that are of social importance that are not easily understood or well known and presenting them in a manner that makes them more applicable to a wider audience. I believe that my current educational pursuits will provide me with the resources and knowledge to achieve this goal.
During the last two years that I attended the University of Toronto I was involved in an independent research project that was used for such modern legal issues as land claim tenure and disputes in the interpretation of treaty rights such as claims to minerals, fishing, logging and development. Through my previous experience I have learned to use a variety of research methods and theoretical perspectives in conjunction with one another.
It is my goal to have a career that involves the production and distribution of socially relevant knowledge and information. Additionally, I would like to continue developing my teaching abilities and to create innovative ways to educate others. My current thesis project involves the use and application of visual media as a pedagogical tool and an educational resource

  1. Hi Drew,

I am a hobbyist beekeeper from Christchurch, New Zealand. I am just scoping ideas for my PhD, looking at the habits of beekeepers. Have read your thesis, would like to hook and throw a few ideas around if you have time.

    Regards

    Chris
